Top Ten Tuesday: Trends I Love and Hate

So, today we are met with droves of books that are following trends. Some I am in love with, others I wish would burn out. I think everyone has their opinions about these books, there's no mystery here, but here's my opinion on what needs to stay, and what needs to go.

1. Stay! - Historical fiction! So much has been written so beautifully lately concerning historical fiction. It's so romantic to see those new books popping up everywhere that you just can't wait to grab ahold of.

2. Time to go! - Teenage paranormal romance. I DO NOT CARE if you are a whinny seventeen year-old brat, if nobody loves you, and if you don't want the brooding mysterious hunk at school who you eventually fall in love with anyway despite love-triangles, demons, and puberty. Grow up.

3. Give me more! - Modern mystery series. If they're written well I love getting my hands onto a series that has a good number of books. I lie getting attached to a writing style and group of characters.

4. Not if God Himself paid me...  - Cozy mysteries. Okay, so I know a few older ladies that eat these things up... almost literally. Help, Aunt Muriel's been shot in the library! ... With a knitting pattern? Oh no, the butler killed the master of the house! And here's this nifty recipe for chocolate biscuits when you're finished.

5. Guilty pleasure... - Young adult historical novels. I love it when a book geared towards younger people is historically accurate and just plain wonderful. Makes history that much more accessible to more people.

6. Just plain... ew... - Random, cliche subjects romance series. I am sick of seeing some photo shopped Fabio, half naked on the front of the book, with some corny title for the book, in a series with dozens o other smut provoking novels. Just ew...

7. Gotta have 'em - Foreign police series. Okay, so I'm a sucker for a series following police or detectives in European countries. Me loves me some traveling.

8. Oh heck no... - Teenage angst. I hate it. I don't want to hear about a bunch of teens and their horrible lives that they could change if they matured. And then we put it in the hand of our own teenagers and wonder what went wrong with them.

9. Falling in love... - Recently, espionage, action, thriller, getting down and dirty with spies, gun fights and car chases had gotten to me... but only if they're good. I'm talking about those gems.

10. Don't make me vomit...  - The bitchy heroin. I know, I'm a girl, and I love books where women lead the plot in all their feminine glory. However, I can't stand the whining, complaining, women who blame every hardship on life on their being a girl, keep playing damsel in distress, or are just plain... emo...

Well I think I've made myself clear. I'm proud of this list, for once it came easily to me. Did I hit any of your trends, in a good or bad way? Like I said, it's only my opinion, but it can clearly be seen through the books I read.

  1. OMG, I love your list! Including the creative lead-in's to each topic. I am such a big mystery fan; I can't believe I forgot to mention that I'd love to see more modern mystery series. Gah.

    Happy Tuesday!

  2. Great list! I loved the lead ins as well. That is one good thing about eReaders. I no longer have to be saddled with a Fabio laden cover showing all the world that I am reading something called "Catching the Lord of the Dance" or something equally ridiculous.

Can't stand the bitchy teen. Or the bitchy heroine either.

I dont think i've read a modern mystery... i like the older ones. Especially on Audiobook.. I'll have to check one out!

    Thanks for participating in TTT!!

  4. Love this list, especially the bit about the cosy mysteries. I am doing a cosy mystery challenge and regretting it (I am concentrating more on vintage titles though, which makes it more bearable). Sometimes we should accept that we don't read a particular genre because we really don't like it and not bother about trying to "read outside our comfort zone".

I totally agree on the subject of whiney teenage angst as well, particularly when vampires, witches, shamens, pixies and woodland creatures are involved!

Hmm, I wasn't going to do a list this week as I thought I'd have trouble thinking of ten trends, but perhaps it's not so difficult after all!

    Love your style - I'm a new follower :-)

  5. I don't read a lot of YA fiction because it's such a sad genre. Teens sitting around, feeling sorry for themselves, whining about their parents and their lives. Yuck!
