Top Ten Tuesday: Some Favorite Book Characters

Is this fair? Asking me to choose top ten favorites. So. Not. Fair. Really. Because I can’t just choose the favorites I’m going to go with my top ten favorite characters as it is now, and not of all time. I just can’t choose ten, goodness…

1. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games - I love Catnip because she’s not like a lot of the other female heroines in YA literature. She can be mean, sure, but she’s also pretty spunky and doesn’t worry about looking in front of the mirror, if you know what I mean, and she’s pretty selfless.

2. & 3. Gale and Peeta from The Hunger Games - Same as above. I think it's just because I'm so wrapped up on the psychology of these books that I need to mention three characters from them.

4. Jace Wayland from City of Bones - He’s just super adorable and kind of a jerk, which is awesome. He doesn’t pretend around the rest of the characters to be anything more than what he is, and best of all he’s violent. YAY violence!

5. Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice - I know, a lot of people have him neck and neck with Mr. Rochester, but Darcy was my first Victorian literature crush so this goes to his moodiness.

6. Remus Lupin from Harry Potter - I have always loved Remus. He was my favorite professor from the books. I always felt he had a lot of depth as a character and a broad personality that J.K. didn't always hit with her other characters.

7. Carlisle Cullen from Twilight - Yeah, I couldn't stand that book, but even my review mentions the Cullens were kinda fun. Carlisle is just awesome, I wanted to glomp him a few times. At least the book didn't make him fail...

8. Diogenes Pendergast from The Book of the Dead - This guy was crazy and I loved him because he wasn't afraid to admit it. He was the villain who knew he was a villain, carried his favorite scalpel around like it was his child, and I think he smelled like a spice cabinet.

9. Miss Marple from Murder at the Vicarage - I know this is going a little old school but nobody ever suspects Agatha Christie's characters. One's an old lady who gets her nose into trouble and the other is a five foot tall Belgian with an awesome mustache. 'Nuff said.

10. Frodo from The Lord of the Rings - One thing I have adored about Tolkien is how he didn't make his main character in his epic fantasy some elf, wizard, or sword wielding superman, but a hobbit no taller than a child who totally save all of Middle-Earth from a much taller villain. Win.

Like the title of the post says, SOME favorites. I have my favorites but I can't just choose ten of them. That's mean, gosh. Cruelty to fictional characters should be an offense punishable by law, but until it is I'm still standing by my rights to not pick 10 all time favorites.

  1. Ha! I love that you included Miss Marple; about two minutes after I published my list Hercule Poirot's name hit me like a ton of bricks. He was probably the first literary character that ever really stuck with me. And Frodo is such a monumental character - all of Tolkien's characters deserve a spot on the list (proof that this was an impossible task, I think!).

  2. Margaret Rutherford will always be my ideal Marple, but I do love her character anyway! I wish I had more Marple books to read. Prof. Lupin is also an amazing character to have on this list! He really was the best DADA professor and I was so sad when I found out he dies!

    Amazing list this week!

  3. I did the same as you and went with favourites-as-of-now. Otherwise my list would have gone on and on and on...
Totally agree on Jace. He made me laugh so much through that series.

  9. Carlisle is HOT, even though I hated those books as well.
I'm glad to see that my prediction that most lists will have a THG character and an HP character is swaying towards truth.
I also liked BOTH Peeta and Gale.

  15. Remus Lupin <3 I always imagened him as a very hot teacher, haha. I was a bit disappointed in the movies, but the actor did a great job :)

  16. Have you ever read Bored of the Rings? It's a funny little parody of LOTR. Frodo is Frito, a lazy little guy who tries to pass the ring off to someone else at every opportunity lol.

  17. I know what you mean about being wrapped up in the psychology of the characters of Hunger Games. They are very interesting ones to discuss. I didn't really care for Gale - Maybe just too one dimensional? Great List. :)
