Top Ten Tuesday: Sequels I'm Dying To Read

I have this really, really bad habit of starting series and then not finishing them. It's not that I don't want to, I just move onto other authors and other books so that I can keep a good variety in my reading. But this fall I should really crack down on some sequels... do I smell a challenge brewing...?

Without further ado...

1. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - I read The Hunger Games a little while ago and really liked it, so I'm looking forward to book two.

2. Beautiful Days by Anna Godbersen - I read the first one over the summer and really liked it, so now I can't wait for number two.

3. City of Ashes - I'm in the middle of City of Bones now and I really like it, so I went out and bought book number two! Can't wait to read it.

4. Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde - The second book in the Thursday Next series. These books are fantastic, witty, and hilarious. How can you not want to read them?

5. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown - Which is the second book in the Robert Langdon series. Ron Howard got it so wrong with making the movie first before the others. Shame on him.
6. Rebel Angels by Libba Bray - Read the first book over the summer, really looking forward to the second book.

7.  All These Things I've Done #2 - I haven't seen when this one is coming out, but the author totally sold me on her first book, so when the sequel is published I'm buying it.

8. The next Preston Child books in their Pendergast and Gideon Crew series. I figured I'd just bunch these fellas together.

9. The Search for the Red Dragon by James Owen - Book two in the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series. I read the first years ago and it was a fun read, I don't know why I never read book two...
10. The Sign of Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - The second Holmes book. I have the entire collection in one of those sexy leather bound volumes, so I should get to it...

I always have problems reading sequels because I want to go off and explore other things. I'm hoping that I can break this bad habit over the fall. Does anybody else have to suffer from this? Anywhere,  here's a list for me to start working on. Wish me luck - I'll need it.

  2. Love your list... Catching Fire is awesome and I have City of Ashes on my list as well. I also have only read the first in the Thursday Next series and would love to read more.

  3. Love the whole Mortal Instruments series, which I came to after Clare's Clockwork Angel and loved it and Clare's writing. Also really enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, but like Angel and Demons better. Great list!

  4. You have some great series listed. Catching Fire should help you break your aversion to series. Happy Reading.

  5. I do the same thing; starting lots of series and never finishing them. A lot of the time I never even get to book two, even though I liked book one. This year I've read 12 first books and only 2 second books... Good luck with your sequels! :)

  6. For me, it really depends on the series. I mean, I tore through all of Jasper Fforde's books (you really, REALLY have to read Lost in a Good Book!!!) but, I still haven't finished the Hannibal Lecter series (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, etc.)

Still have to read The Hunger Games (heard a LOT of good things about that series), and in all honesty, I would love just to have the time to finish a BOOK! Not even a series right now!

  7. I loved Catching Fire! I preferred the first book, but CF is almost as great.

  8. I'm just as bad as you with series - it takes me way longer than it should to finish them. Although I have read all The Hunger Games trilogy, I'm only up to Rebel Angels myself in the Gemma Doyle series. I wonder which one of us will finish first? ;-)

  9. New follower!

I have not read all the Hunger Games series, I really need to. It's reassuring to know not everyone has read the books.

  10. Jasper Fforde! When I first picked up his books, I just could not get into it. I started with The Fourth Bear and it was too...weird for me. I came back a few years later and plowed through it & wound up devouring his other books as well.

  11. Great list! You included some that I completely forgot about.

The Hunger Games series is wonderful - you definitely have to finish it!

I had a lot of trouble thinking of grown-up sequels I want to read - I don't read a lot of series, other than kid/teen/YA - but you reminded me of one more I do want to get to - the sequel to The DaVinci Code. It's been sitting on my shelf for ages.

  13. Heh, I have the same problem.. unless it's an AMAZING first book, I rarely feel compelled right away to anticipate the sequel.. I'm often slightly curious, but not necessarily DYING to read it! ;)

    Here's my Top 10 Tuesday!
