Top Ten Tuesday: Books I wish I could again read for the first time...

Oh my goodness, you can't tell me you haven't felt this before... You finish that fantastic novel, set it down, and start to mull over it, and you realize how much you regret having read it. You wish you could take it all away, just to read it again! And seeing people you know read the book makes you green with envy, and you whine at thinking how amazing it must be for them to be experiencing the book for the very first time.

Oh yeah, it's like that bittersweet feeling that you've just read an instant favorite, and you will never experience it that way again...

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - I read this recently, despite the title being on my 'to-read' shelf for YEARS! In some ways I'm glad I waited until I had matured as a reader to read it though...

2. Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling - I really wish I could just experience this entire series all over again. It was funny, light, witty, and just something that I enjoyed as a special bookish treat.

3. The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkein - Loved these books, read them when I was younger, but I wish had waited until I was a bit older.

4. The Luxe by Anna Godbersen - WARNING! I feel so guilty about this, I feel like I'm revealing a dark secret... I've only read the first book in this series and half of the second. Then, my best friend told me what happened because I was getting depressed over the series. Now I refuse to read the rest because I don't want to deal with BS and drama only for them all to fail. So I sometimes wish I'd never read them so I could re-read them, spoiler-free.

5. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - Dear English Professor, you are awesome, really, you rock my socks, but I really wish I read this instant favorite outside of your classroom, and I really wish I could read it again for the first time, thank you, a student/fan. 'Nuff said.

These are my top five, or at least books that I have specific comments or witty lines for. Here are some honorable mentions that I don't have much to say about, but of which I think need to be counted...

6. The Kite Runner
7. Still Life with Crows
8. Othello
9. The Lord of the Flies
10. The Hobbit

You know the drill! Let me know what you think or what you have on your list. I really want to see them, and I really want your comments.

Much love!

  3. I definitely agree with Harry Potter and Lord of the Flies. As for The Luxe ... Thanks so much for the honesty. You just saved me a whole lot of time and money on something that would have made me really angry.

  4. Harry Potter is on my list as well! :) I feel so bad for you about The Luxe. I NEVER let my friends spoil books for me. I cover my ears and sing loudly like a child when they try to. ;D

  5. The Luxe is on my list as well :) Even if the books have been spoiled (like my friends do to me) they are still worth reading.

  12. I've started again Pride and Prejudice. I started reading it 3 years ago and then stopped at like 50 pages. I don't know.. My friend said it's her best book ever, but I just haven't fell in the story. Weird. And now I see all these people on blogs rating this book so high, I decided to give it a try again. Now I'm reading it in English (and not in Slovenian) and it's so much better :) I hope I'll like it better this time and not give up on it :)

    happy reading,

  13. Nea,

I feel the need to say this, because I know JUST how you feel. Austen's writing is not the most exciting. I find myself really dragging through her style. If you stick with it, by the time you've reached the end you will have done a lot of dragging through parts, but you also would have read a great story!
